Review: Puzzle by Amiina

Amiina‘s prior work as the quartet behind Sigur Ros and their first full release Kurr established them as masters of the ethereal. Multi-instrumentalists that could weave lighter than air songs using “musical saws, kalimbas, music boxes and seemingly anything that could be plucked, bowed or beaten on”.

With Puzzle we see the quartet become a sextet with the addition of drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and an electronic musician Kippi Kaninus. The magical, whimsical, core is still firmly in place but, before, where songs merely floated over fields Magnús can now drive the songs to run and dance at will while Kippi paints the sky above in all manner of moods.

Strangely the album has not shown up at the usual online retailers but you can buy the CD and digital release at Amiina‘s online store.
